Where can I pick up the Budapest Card at the Airport?

    • Budapest Cards March 17, 2014 at 10:04 am

Good morning, if you ordered your card online in advance with the 5% discount, you can pick up the Budapest Card at the terminals of Budapest Airport: terminal 2A or terminal 2B both have a tourist office (well signed for Budapest Tourist Info).

Opening hours of the tourist office on Budapest Airport:
Terminal 2A, daily from 8 am to 11 pm
Terminal 2B, daily from 10 am to 10 pm

If you arrive later than 11 pm we do not recommend buying the Budapest card with an airport pickup, as no tourist office is open. Instead you can get your card in the city center tourist offices. But perhaps for late night arrival the best is to order the card to your hotel (the card delivery is free of charge for online reservations).

My flight arrives at the airport on the first of May at 2 pm. Will the tourist office be open at the airport this day which is a holiday?
    Best regards

    • Budapest Cards April 5, 2014 at 3:57 pm

Hello, yes the tourist office at the airport is open as usual even on May 1, regardless of Hungarian national holidays.

  • Marina April 8, 2014 at 6:27 am

We arrive to Keleti railway station. Is there any tourists office nearby to get my Budapest card purchased online? What is its work hours? Thank you in advance for your answer.

    • Budapest Cards April 9, 2014 at 8:57 pm

Hello Marina, in this case you could pick up your Budapest Card in the city center tourism office (with the 5% discount), the opening hours are usually 9 am – 8 pm, for instance on Deak Square metro station (10 min metro ride from Keleti Railway Station).
Or you could choose to have your card delivered to your accommodation waiting ready for you (this would mean that you need to have a transfer arranged from Keleti train station to your hotel or hostel in Budapest).

In either case, there is no pickup right at the Keleti Railway Station. If you wish to be able to use the card instantly as you arrive we would recommend going down to the metro booths at Keleti station (which is also a metro station not only a train station) and buying a travel pass for the public transport there (usually open from 6 am to 8 pm).

I am over 65, do I need to buy one of these cards? I believe I can travel for free on the public transport, will it benefit me in any of the other ways? Thank You.

  • Alex August 13, 2015 at 7:12 am

Is it possible to get the 5% discount and get the card delivered to my hotel for free or I have to choose between both?
is there any place near the train station Keleti to get the card??
    thanks

    • Budapest Cards August 13, 2015 at 10:02 am

      Dear Alex,
the online purchased cards (with the 5% discount) are delivered to your hotel for free.

  • mina October 22, 2015 at 1:40 pm

We arrive at the airport at 19.30 (10th February) and we leave at 10.00 (14th February). Which card we must buy in order to have free at public transportation until at least 13th February night?

    • Budapest Cards October 22, 2015 at 3:25 pm

      Dear Mina,
I would recommend you to buy the longest, 72 hours card. Please note that the cards are valid starting from the first day of use, not from the day of purchase.
There are also loads of benefits included in the Budapest Card, some of which can be enjoyed in 24 hours, but most of them only in 72 hours. It is the most popular of the Budapest Cards for this reason.

  • Wendy February 10, 2016 at 5:51 pm

    Hi,

Do you know if I could still use the card for discount to enter the museums if after the hours expire or before I start using it? I’m just thinking about getting a 24hr one and use it on the day that I will be using the public transportation most and the rest of the days I’ll just walk but then will I be able to use the Budapest card for discount?

    • Budapest Cards February 11, 2016 at 9:05 am

      Dear Wendy,
Budapest card benefits are valid starting from the first hour of the first day of use for the duration of the hours you buy (24 hour, 48 hour, 72 hour), and cannot be used after expiration.
This means unfortunately, that the benefits do not get separated for 24 hour public transport, with additional any time other entry benefits. The entries are also valid for 24 hour only if you have a 24 hour card.
To make most out of the 24 h card, we would recommend the following:
start using it with the selected benefits and plan for a 24 hour period ahead:
e.g. a great day with a Budapest Card could be if you like walking tours:
10 am – get on the public transport – people watching / getting around / finding the meeting point
10.30 – 12.30 am Walking Tour – Budapest City Centre on the Pest side of Budapest (meeting point of tour: 31 Vaci Street Budapest, District V, post code 1052) / you can also opt for visiting one of the best museums in Budapest like the Hungarian National Museum or get on a hop on hop off bus tour with 20-30% off the bus tour price!

12.30 – 1.30 Lunch in the city, see some great places here for a budget option to save more: http://restaurants.topbudapest.org/best-hungarian-restaurants-on-a-budget.
1.30 – 2pm: get the pubic transport up to the Buda Castle and locate the meeting point of the afternoon tour
2 – 4 pm Castle District Tour on the Buda Hill (2 hour relaxed walking tour) (meeting point of tour: 2 Szentharomsag Square Budapest, District I, post code 1014)
4 – 6 pm inside Buda Castle – free entry to the museums, galleries inside and there are nice little cafes in the building to take a rest
      6 pm – 7pm dinner / snacks
7 – 9 pm Lukacs Baths – free Thermal Ticket to the baths
9.30 or 10.15 pm sightseeing evening cruise on the river Danube: -20% off ticket prices

      http://budapestrivercruise.com/10-15-pm-sightseeing-cruise-at-night-in-budapest

As you can see most tourists choose to have the 72 hour Budapest Card not only for the longer weekend holiday but also to have a chance to use most of the benefits the Card offers.

  • Carole February 13, 2016 at 11:06 am

We are arriving on 21st and would like to know best way of getting to our hotel and if the Budapest card cover the transfer to and from airport. We are staying at the Golden Park. We are first time visitors to Budapest

    • Budapest Cards February 13, 2016 at 1:38 pm

      Dear Carole,
with Budapest Card you have a 10% discount from the airport transfer, using the services of miniBUD airport shuttle. Alternatively, you can get on the public transport free of charge, but we only recommend taking the bus & metro if you have a small backpack, or a cabin sized suitcase. If you have a bigger luggage, the best option from Budapest airport to the city centre is taking a taxi / shuttle bus.

  • Vad May 28, 2016 at 12:18 am

Can I get a discount on tickets to “Big Bus Budapest” with “Budapest card”?
    Thanks in advance!

    • Budapest Cards May 28, 2016 at 11:50 am

      Dear Vad,
yes, you can have 30% discount with Budapest Card on several Budapest hop on hop off bus tours, including the Big Bus Tour.
